Petrie bootcareset
for lifelong riding pleasure
Riding boots are daily exposed to harsh conditions that are not good for the leather: sweat, ammonia, manure, horse hair, dirt and mud. We have developed a special leather care line so that you can enjoy your riding boots for as long as possible. Of course wear is inevitable with frequent use, but you can keep this to a minimum with our bootcare set.
Step 1: Apply Petrie cream before riding
Always coat the outside of your riding boots with a clear moisturizing cream. Such as Petrie Riding Boot Cream. The cream must be easy to spread and give shine. It should not be too greasy, because then sand and dust will stick to the boot. You use the cream to nourish the leather and to seal it off from outside influences, such as the horse’s sweat. Sweat is salty and draws moisture out of the leather, causing the leather to dry out and crack. Never grease the inside of the boots’ shaft. Then the boot becomes water-repellent and no longer absorbs moisture of your feet and legs.
Tip: Polishing your boots with tights (panty hose) gives a nice shine.
Step 2: Use Petrie cleaner after riding
Clean the boots after riding with a good, concentrated cleaner, for example our Petrie Riding Boot Cleaner. With this you ‘wash’ the sweat and salt of the leather. Let it dry for a while and then apply boot cream. Let it soak in the boot for a while and then buff it out. Don’t you normally follow the rules that closely? Feel free to let it withdraw for a day! Are you someone who is always grooms neatly? Then you can rub out faster. We do not recommend using a regular leather cleaner for cleaning, because it does not contain enough salt-dissolving agent and, moreover, no nutrients have been added.
Tip: With the Petrie Luca and Trento, make sure that you immediately thoroughly polish the cleaner and cream. Because the leather is grained, the shoe cream can dry in the grains. This makes the Bootcare products more difficult to rub out, which can cause white deposits.
Step 3: Keep your zippers clean with Petrie Zipspray
It is very important to keep the zipper free of dirt, because otherwise there will be a chance of breakage. The teeth must be clean and lubricated, this way they last much longer. We have developed our Petrie Zip Spray especially for the zipper of our riding boots. It’s easy to use and does not stick.
Step 4: Bring color to life with our Color Cream
For regular care, we recommend clear boot cream for every boot, regardless of color. Once every 2-3 weeks you use a color cream in the color of your own boot: Petrie Riding Boot Color Cream. The extra pigment in this cream restores the color. This is necessary because leather is not naturally brown or black, but much lighter. The color of the boot that has been applied as a top coating is subject to wear and tear and you can restore this color with the color cream.
Tip: Do not use the Color Cream daily. The chance that your beautiful white competition breeches will get the same color as your boots is not something you’d want to risk.
